Ronald McDonald Family Room®

The Ronald McDonald Family Room® at Children’s National Medical Center – when families walk in, we want them to forget they are in a hospital.

For over 15 years, the Ronald McDonald Family Room® has been an oasis of calm in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the Hematology/Oncology unit at Children’s National Medical Center. Only steps from their children, parents and other caregivers can briefly slip into another world, a place of quiet respite where they can have a snack or cup of coffee, check email, read, or just talk together and relax for a few minutes. The current Family Room is about to undergo a significant transformation. Together RMHC and CNMC are planning to enlarge the size of the room, offer new amenities, and in general make the room more comfortable, warmer and inviting. A welcome change will be the addition of regularly scheduled volunteers to greet and assist families and to provide support for new Family Room based programming. Stay tuned for further  updates as this exciting project gets underway.

Help Children Heal Faster and Cope Better

Research shows that a family presence in the hospital helps children heal faster and cope better. Staying close by allows parents to better communicate with their child’s medical team and improves adherence to complicated treatment plans.
