Wish List
Hundreds of families come through our doors each year and as you can imagine, our supply of sheets, towels, toiletries, and food dwindles quickly! Thanks to the help of our donors and local community partners, we’re able to stay stocked up. If you’re looking to make a donation or do a Wish List Drive, here’s a Wish List of everyday needs. Pop Tabs
Collecting pop tabs is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling, and raise funds to help children and their families at the same time. Some of our Chapters raise thousands of dollars with their pop tab collections.
Why?
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington, D.C. collects pop tabs instead of entire aluminum cans because it’s more hygienic to store tabs than cans, and collection and storage is easier. The program is an easy way for people of all ages to support RMHC and know they are making a difference for families and children.
Where?
Be as creative as your wish with your pop tab collection container- you can simply line a box with a large garbage bag, decorate a plastic container with photos of the house or copies of the RMHC logo…we’ve even seen groups build small houses to collect their tabs. Collect pop tabs to drop off at one of our Houses. Once they arrive at our door, Waste Management takes them to be recycled, and then we receive a check for the going rate on aluminum. Waste Management has graciously donated the recycling receptacles stationed at each House, as well as the time and labor to pick up and haul the tabs.
